This painting was based on a sketch done for my Daily Doodle Feature. It features a Maui Dolphin, which is the rarest dolphin species on earth, with population estimates at only 55 individuals surviving. Although one of the largest threats to their existence has been a bi-product of the fishing industry (they get tangled in netting and trawling), in June of this year, 3000 km2 (approximately 1/4) of the West Coast North Island Marine Mammal Sanctuary (the main habitat for this dwindling population) was opened for oil drilling, putting them at even greater risk. So far efforts to save the Maui Dolphin have been unsuccessful, in part because so few people know about them! So please get informed and spread the word!
Prints are available in 2 sizes, 5x7 and 8x10. Only 25 will be printed in each size, it will not be reissued, so if you like it, be sure to act before they are sold out!
